Ultron® Fiber
Ultron® is a nylon 6,6 fiber certified as a Cradle to Cradle™ Technical Nutrient, which can be used with preferred additives for use in floor coverings and similar applications.
In the material assessment work for Solutia, MBDC noted that Ultron® is “an ideal technical nutrient from the standpoint of resource reutilization because nylon 6,6 is recyclable by traditional means such as grinding and remelting as well as by dissolution and decolorization, two techniques that Solutia pioneered.”
Solutia has further stated its interest in helping close the loop on its Ultron® fiber: “Solutia will continue to work with Partners for Renewal to find eco-effective ways to reuse carpet and to bring innovative products to the market. We now have a plan from MBDC to optimize our product and processes which we are continuing to work. Solutia is working with MBDC to eliminate the very concept of waste. We are committed to cradle-to-cradle use of Ultron Nylon 6,6 in high quality carpets for the contract market.”
“Partners for Renewal is a unique initiative designed to facilitate the recovery and reuse of valuable natural resources embodied in post-consumer carpet.
