Cradle to Cradle Certification provides a company
with a means to tangibly, credibly measure achievement
in environmentally-intelligent design and helps
customers purchase and specify products that are
pursuing a broader definition of quality. MBDC
uses the following criteria to evaluate products:
Materials:
Assess the product’s individual ingredients
and complete formulation for human and environmental
health impacts throughout the entire product
lifecycle |
Material Reutilization/Design for
Environment:
Evaluate whether the product can be fully
recycled or safely composted, and work to
enhance material reutilization |
Energy:
Envision, measure and improve energy efficiency
and the proportion of renewable energy within
product manufacture |
Water:
Develop goals and track progress in water
use efficiency and water quality associated
with product manufacture |
Social Responsibility:
Establish objectives for workplace ethics,
then assess and enhance performance on these
measures |
If a candidate product achieves the necessary
criteria, it is certified as a Silver, Gold or
Platinum product or as a Technical/Biological
Nutrient (available for homogeneous materials
or less complex products), and can be branded
as Cradle to Cradle.
